The Department of Architecture
(Program of Architectural Technique & Program of Interior
Design)
◆ Background
This department, originally erected in 1991, included only two programs, five-year
and two-year colleges. In 1998, a new program of two-year technique college
was founded in this department. Rather, the four-year technique college was
also added in the year of 2000. The original title of this department was “Department
of Architectural Engineering.” In 2004 it had been renamed to the title of “Department
of Architecture.” Since then the four-year technique college has included two
programs: Architectural Technique and Interior Design.
◆ Educational concepts
The department trains students to become practical and sustainable architectural
professionals.
◆ Educational goals
A.Fundamental goals: The fist basic goal is to train students to have the capabilities
of independent thinking, analyzing and creating in architectural field. The
second goal is to teach students to have the skills in drawing, designing and
constructing. The third goal is to educate students to cultivate the ideas of
being obligated and practical in architectural fields.
B. Features of the programs
1. Program of Architectural Technique: The main goal of this program is to teach
students to gain the professional trainings of architectural design, construction,
structure, architectural environment and facilities, and computer aided design.
The techniques of teaching these related courses focus on practical trainings
and technical skills.
2. Program of Interior Design: This program is to lead students to develop the
professional techniques in interior design, cultural industry, environmental
design, community planning and construction. The purposes of teaching these
courses mainly include practical trainings in interior design and workshops.
◆ Academic programs
Two-year technique college
Four-year technique college
◆ Features
The department features its development on environmental preservation, reuse
in sustainable architecture and interior design. For the architectural trend
and developing needs, all the courses are arranged mainly focusing on integrating
techniques between architecture and environment. These trainings also have the
purpose to cultivate students to learn the concepts of “architecture sustenance”
in the fields of integrating of professional architecture and the operation
of community environment. Moreover, to meet the social needs in the fields of
both interior design and exterior design and to combine community construction,
creative culture industries and environmental arts, the department contains
two programs—Interior Design Program and Architectural Technique Program. The
exhibition of the final design project for graduation is held annually.
◆ Faculty
The faculty includes six associate professors, three assistant professors and
seventeen lecturers. Seven of the lecturers are prospective Ph.D. researchers.
The estimation of percentage of associate professors in this department will
be 60% in the near future. Tuelue of the faculty are licensed architects or
technicians of structure and urban planning. Plenty of part-time teachers with
professional experiences are also invited to teach in the department.
◆ Facility
The department is installed with many high-tech facilities. They include drawing
studio, computer network classroom, three design studios, ladder classroom,
exhibition room, material demonstration room, interior design studio, environmental
control research room, lighting laboratory, darkroom, library, Architectonic
& Material Workshop,Beauty & Decoration Lab.,art classroom,Energy Saving
House, galley and lecture classrooms.

◆ Prospect
A. career planning: Some graduates can be architects, interior designers, structure
technicians, urban planning technicians or architectural consultants. Others
may work at architectural developing companies, construction companies, landscaping
offices or architectural firms.
B. graduate schools: To gain further research, students are encouraged to study
in the graduate schools of Architecture, Space Design, Interior Design, Urban
Design, Architecture and City-country Study, Public Affairs, and Construction
& Architectural Historic Preservation.
Graduate Institution of Architecture
History: Graduate Institution of Architecture
will be founded in 2006.
Educational Objective:
To incubate senior architects provided with integrated profession
In recent years, incubation of senior architects has been made effort in the
country. However, rapid transfer and promotion of architectural industry generate
more man-power demand than production of education institution. The graduate
institution of architecture thereby provides education resource to incubate
senior architects provided with integrated profession.
Graduate Program: Master's Degree
Feature:
The goal of graduate institution of architecture is to develop advanced techniques
of sustainable architecture. Related research fields include sustainable building,
sustainable environment, and architecture preservation and ex-tended use. The
development of features will focus on both effective and applicative techniques
incubation.
Faculty:
Full time faculty includes ten instructors, five assistant professors, and five
associate professors. Faculties are experienced, aggressive, and devoted to
the instruction of learning technique.
Facility:
Lab. : environmental action research studio, lighting environment Lab., saving
resources study house
Equipment : solar radiation meter, insolation simulator, air velocity meter,
digital weather console, duct monitor, CO2 indicator, heat radiation meter,
luminance meter, sound level meter, vibration meter, precision integrating sound
level meter, building acoustics measurement & analysis system, room acoustics
software, notebook

Prospective Aim:
Based on the global development of sustainable building, architecture preservation,
and ex-tended use, current architectural industry has been transferred to an
integrated manner to meet the upgrade need of architecture. Graduate-level man
power, therefore, plays an important role to construct sustainable environment
of architecture. The graduate institution of architecture will provide efforts
on education for the promotion of architecture environment in the country.
